George Hill-bakers interests lie in characteristics of gravity and the presence of worlds beyond our own. With a keen interest in the sky and what lies out of reach, he reflects upon the avoidance of earthly confinement, showing a disdain for bodily limitation and one’s compulsory residence on the planet.

Hill-Baker recognises himself as a wonder junkie. He takes influence from the work of the late cosmologist Carl Sagan as well as other awe addicted artists who use gravity as a medium. Evoking both the hopeful and the melancholy, his work merges themes of child-like aspiration and parental realism to produce otherworldly environments.

In George’s work, hands are often used to reference the presence of a human being, such as a speculative pilot or passenger riding within the confines of his structures. Colour gradients and perspective are used to create scale and depth while objects associated with ascension such as balloons or feathers are prominent.

Hill-Baker works in sculpture and digital drawing
